JVP secretary Tilvin Silva and parliamentarian Sunil Handunnetti have been issued notice by the Colombo Chief Magistrate to give evidence in the case against Shashi Weerawansa, the wife of MP Wimal Weerawansa.
Accordingly, the witnesses have been ordered to be present before courts on Feburary 06.
Ms. Weerawansa has been accused of providing false information before the Immigration and Emigration Department in order to obtain a diplomatic passport through fraudulent means.
The Deputy Solicitor General, Dileepa Peiris, informed the Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne that the complaint will be forwarded to the witnesses to call for evidence regarding relevant documents in the case.
The complainant had made this request after amending the list of witnesses following which Magistrate Jayaratne issued summons on two witnesses in the case.
Meanwhile, court had obtained a statement from retired deputy solicitor general Sumathipala Hettiarachchi today (Jan 14).
Mr. Hettiarachchi while providing evidence said that Ms. Weerawansa had requested for the name and age of her child to be altered on her child's birth certificate in 2011. He added that MP Weerawansa who was a Minister at that time, had also called and asked him to make such changes.
