Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) has called on the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) to consider the statement of the President concerning the attempts to bribe members of Parliament.
Issuing a press release, TISL said the President had admitted that vast sums of money had been solicited and offered to MPs in exchange for their allegiance during an interview.
The release further added that it has formally provided the video footage of the President's remarks to the CIABOC.
Meanwhile, Asoka Obeysekere, Executive Director of TISL said the remarks made by the President during the interview had given weight to the initial complaint filed by TISL over crossover bribes.
The TISL therefore called on the President to voluntarily provide a statement to the CIABOC, "thereby upholding his own commitment to transparency and accountability"
