The Tamil National Alliance has welcomed the announcement by the government that a further twenty-three political prisoners will be released through the process of rehabilitation.
In a press release issued, the TNA said the move is in keeping with the promise given to Leader of the Opposition R. Sampanthan and TNA Jaffna District M.P. and Spokesperson M.A. Sumanthiran at a meeting held at Temple Trees on the August 26, 2016 with Minister of Justice Wijayadasa Rajapaksa, Minister of Law and Order Sagala Rathnayaka, the Attorney General and other High Officials.
“We urge the government to continue this process of re-evaluation and release the rest of the political prisoners also without delay,” the press release said.
