Torrential rains cause traffic chaos, uprooting of trees in Colombo

Heavy traffic prevails in Colombo and suburbs this morning due to torrential rains. Several roads are reported to be flooded. The Colombo-Avissawella Road has been blocked due to floods at Puwakpitiya. 

The Met Department says heavy rains between 100mm to 150mm are to be expected in some places today.  

The heavy showers have also caused the uprooting of large trees in in and around Colombo as well. Captured here are images of a tree being cut down after being uprooted owing to strong winds in Colombo
