The engine of the No 81 train from Colombo Fort to Jaffna derailed this morning between Fort and Maradana.
The engine was placed back on track and the train departed for Jaffna after a two hour delay, the Main Control Room of the Railway Department said.
The railway track segment which was damaged due to derailment is under construction by the workers of the Railways Department.
They also stressed that the derailment is not a hindrance to other railway lines.
