A house which was used as a training facility by suspected suicide bomber Zahran Cassim was discovered in Kattankudy today (May 05).
The house was discovered during a search operation carried out in the Ollikulam area in Batticaloa by the Special Task Force and the Police. A basement atop the four-storeyed house is believed to have provided individuals an opportunity to observe the entire surrounding.
Security forces believe that the brother of Zahran Cassim identified as 'Rilwan' had injured his eye while manufacturing an explosive at this house. Fingerprints believed to have been that of Rilwan's were also discovered at the facility.
Three PVC water pipes which were believed to have been used in manufacturing explosives were seized from the residence during the search today. Recently, an explosive fixed inside a pipe was discovered by the Air Force in the vicnity of the Bandaranaike International Aiport.
Meanwhile, a suspect who was at the training facility has been taken into custody and is being questioned regarding the matter.
