UPDATE : Ella - Wellawaya road temporarily closed after earthslip
Update : The Ella - Wellawaya road neat the 15th mile post has been temporarily closed for traffic following an earthslip today (Oct 25).
Badulla District Secretary Damayanthi Paranagama had issued instruction to close off the road, after engaging in an observation this afternoon.
The district secretary has requested drivers to use alternative roads until further notice.
Transportation along Wellawaya road restored after earthslip
Transportation along the Wellawaya main road, close to Ella has been restored after an earth slip occurred in the area, affected traffic, today (Oct 25).
Disaster Management Centre (DMC) officials and the police had taken steps to clear the road to facilitate transportation.
However, the DMC office in Batticaloa advised drivers to exercise caution while travelling along the road, especially if the area receives rainfall in the afternoon.
