The government today lifted the travel restrictions it had imposed on foreign passport holders to North, Defense Secretary B.M.U.D Basnayake said. The First National Security Council meeting was held today at the defense ministry to review the security situation in the country. The decision to lift the restrictions came after the committee decided that there is no security threat and normalcy returned. "There is no need to produce a travel document granting MOD approval at the Omanthai entry/exit point, the main travel check point located in Vavuniya." he said. Security Council also took into consideration of baning items to the North such as firearms, telescopes and explosives.
