Tributes for Jayalalithaa in the North

Shops and business establishments were shut and black flags hoisted in Jaffna town yesterday as a mark of respect for the late Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Jayalalithaa Jayaram. 

The shops were shut and black flags hoisted during the time the late Chief Minister's funeral was taking place. 

Representatives from the Jaffna Traders' Association said they took these steps as Ms Jayalalithaa had rendered great service to the Tamil people and was also a prominent campaigner for Tamil rights in Sri Lanka. 

Meanwhile, several civil society organizations in Vavuniya also paid tribute to the late Chief Minister and garlanded her portrait as a mark of final respect.
