President Maithripala Sirisena is to establish the 'Tripitaka' as part of the country's national heritage on January 05 in a bid to avoid misinterpretations of the scripture, Buddhasasana Minister Gamini Jayawickrama Perera said today (Dec 02).
The tripitaka is the traditional term for the Buddhist scriptures and is a collection of Buddhist teachings that are the foundation of the Theravada Buddhist philosophy.
Minister Perera pointed out at a briefing that several individuals had interpreted the scriptures in misleading ways to suit their own benefit.
He also added that the Buddhasasana Ministry would implement measures in future to prevent the exaggeration of the Bhuddist faith.
