Two persons who attempted to extort ransom by kidnapping a girl and her mother have been arrested yesterday (Sept 22), police said.
The kidnapped child has been identified as an eight-year old student studying in Grade 4 at an international school in Nagoda.
Police believe that she had been kidnapped out of jealousy after winning many awards at a prize giving held at her school.
A police uniform, an air rifle, gun powder, a sword and a machete had been recovered from the suspects at the time of the arrest.
The suspects, identified as residents of Dodangoda, and Kalutara (South), are being questioned by the Police.
