Two arrested for shooting five persons in Batapola

Two suspects who were allegedly involved in a shooting incident that left five persons seriously injured in Batapola on October 31 have been taken into custody. 

The group suffered serious injuries after gunmen opened fire at the car they were traveling in at Eeriyagahadola in Batapola. 

The suspects were taken into custody from Telwatta on Tuesday night, Police Media Unit said. 

After interrogation of the suspects, police recovered a T56 firearm, a magazine, six live rounds of ammunition and two motorbikes allegedly used in the shooting. Police said the first suspect was also wanted in connection with the shooting of an individual at Meetiyagoda in Telwatta on October 10.

The two suspects, aged 36 and 27 years, were produced before the Balapitiya Magistrate's Court yesterday (6) and ordered to be held in custody at the police station till today (7) and questioned.
