Two persons who attempted to smuggle 11 kilograms of gold out of the country were apprehended by a Navy patrol in the seas off Kudawa in Kalpitiya today (February 02).
The suspects have been identified as 33 and 29 year old residents of Kudawa, Kalpitiya.
A dinghy along with navigation equipment and two mobile phones were also taken into custody.
The seized possessions were handed over to Sri Lanka Customs in Colombo.
Last year, over 62 kg of gold was seized by the Navy around the country's coastal belt.
