Two firefighters who were deployed to douse a fire in Kollupitiya have been rushed to the National Eye Hospital after sustaining eye injuries, police said.
The incident had occured when the firemen from the Fire Service of the Colombo Municipal Council had attempted to contain a fire that broke out inside a building in R.A.De Mel Mawathe, Kollupitiya.
Seven employees in the building who were in the first floor of the building had heard an explosion following which the fire had broken out, police investigations have revealed.
Accordingly, the employees had notified the Police regarding the fire following which swift measures were taken to douse the fire.
