Two fishermen have been arrested after a whale shark had died after being trapped in fishing nets off Pooneryn today (Jun 29).
It was revealed that the shark had weighed 2000 kilos.
They are due to be produced before the Kilinochchi Magistrate's Court today.
According to the Fisheries Inspector's Office, the species has been identified as one that is facing the threat of extinction.
