Due to the prevailing windy and wet conditions in the island, two flights which attempted to land during the early hours of today (August 8) at the Bandaranaike International Airport were re-directed towards the Mattala Mahinda Rajapaksa International Airport, by Airport Authorities.
Among the flights that were redirected was a Qatar Airways flight QR 662, which flew in from Doha and landed at the Mattala airport at 3.15 am.
The other flight which was redirected was an Air Arabia flight G-9503 that arrived from Sharjah at 2.50 am.
Both flights refueled without the passengers offloading and left the Mattala airport shortly afterward and headed once more towards Katunayake airport.
The weather conditions had improved by then and operations were continuing.
