Two former personnel of the LTTE missile squad were sentenced to 185 years of rigorous imprisonment over the killing of 37 people using a missile during the LTTE war.
The order was issued by the North-Central Province High Court judge Mahesh Weeraman today (Jan 10).
The convicts were charged with carrying out a missile attack on an Antonov 32 military aircraft which had taken off from Palali and was heading towards Ratmalana. It was revealed that the attack had been carried out from the Wilpattu national park following which a 37-member crew comprising Navy, Airforce and Police personnel were killed due to the bombing.
During the hearing, the suspects were found guilty of all 37 charges that were levelled against them by the Attorney General.
Accordingly, court had ordered a jail term of five years for each of the 37 charges that the suspects were found guilty.
