Two former railway officials have been granted bail after being indicted over a corruption case at the Colombo High Court today (Aug 29).
The Bribery and Corruption Commission which is prosecuting the case handed over indictments to former railways superintendent P.P. Wijesekara and former additional general manager Vijaya Samarasinghe.
High Court Judge Gihan Kulatunga then ordered to release the suspects on a cash bail of Rs 500,000 and a surety bail of Rs 50,000 each. Further hearing would take place on November 8.
The suspects have been accused of unlawfully granting permission to an individual named Dilan de Silva for the operation of canteens at the Department of Railways for one year starting from February 2011.

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
