Two Grama Niladharis arrested with items made from Dalaputtuwa's tusks

Two Grama Niladharis who were in possession of two pendants and a talisman allegdedly made from the tusks of the murdered 'Galgamuwe Dalaputtuwa' have been taken into custody by police in Nikaweratiya. The arrests were made on the night of December 2 by the Nikaweratiya Divisional Intelligence nit.

Police said the two suspects had served as the Grama Niladharis of the Dorawella and Makulpotha Grama Niladhari Divisions. 

The suspects were handed over to the Polpithigama Police for further investigations. 

According to police sources, the suspects had revealed under interrogation that they had purchased the pendants and the talisman from the Herathgama Grama Niladhari, who was earlier arrested as the main suspect in the killing of the tusker. However, the suspects had not divulged how much they paid for the items. 

Ten suspects are currently under arrest for the killing of the 'Dalaputtuwa' and taking its tusks. Police say investigations are starting to reveal that the main suspect in the animals killing had also been involved in the killing of several other tuskers.
