Two individuals who were arrested for capturing images of Horton Plains National Park using a drone camera have been fined by the Nuwareliya Magistrates Court today (Dec 03).
The suspects were fined Rs 1500 and were also ordered to pay Rs 2000 to the government as a penalty.
An additional fine of Rs 40,000 was imposed on the second suspect by Nuwareliya Magistrate Pramod Jayasekara when the case was taken up for hearing today.
The suspects, who included a doctor were arrested by officials of the park and later charged under counts of obstructing the duty of officers at the park and causing harm to animals.
Magistrate Jayasekara also ordered that the mobile phones, drone camera and the sim cards of the suspects be confiscated.
