At least two persons were killed and more than 11,000 persons affected due to heavy winds and floods in several areas of the country overnight, officials said.
A young girl was killed in Kothalawalapura, Kaduwela last night when a retaining wall collapsed on their house while the mother and two brothers were injured.
Earlier yesterday, a woman was killed when a tree collapsed on her house in Galle.
Several houses, buildings and business establishments also were damaged mainly due to heavy blowing reported.
A vocational training institute in Marawila was severely damaged when two trees collapsed.
Meanwhile crops, including paddy lands, were damaged in several areas.
The Meteorological Department warned that winds blowing at the speeds of 50 Km were expected today.
