Two killed in road accident
A man and a woman were killed due to a road accident at Pelawatta, Suduwella on the Madampe-Kuliyapitiya Road this morning (17).
The deceased are both area residents. The female was 73 years of age while the male was 31 years old, Madampe Police said.
According to police, the male victim had been riding on a motorbike when he lost control of it due to excessive speed, resulting in him colliding with the female victim, who was crossing the road to go to a nearby pharmacy to purchase some medicines. After striking the female, the motorbike had toppled over. Both victims had suffered serious injuries and were admitted to the Chilaw Base Hospital, but succumbed to their injuries, police added.
Madampe Police is conducting further investigations.
