A group of migrant workers in Kuwait who were duped into being transported to a new boarding facility before being dropped off at an airport, have returned to the country this morning.
The group comprising 41 persons included 29 youths who had stayed for about 10 days before they had flown back on flight QR-668 at around 2 am today (Jun 10).
These youths had taken wing to Kuwait on May 31 seeking employment as food delivery riders. Also among the group were 30 youths who had travelled to Kuwait on June 04.
It is reported that some officers from an employment agency had dropped off the workers at the airport after asking them to board a bus to be transported to another lodging facility.
It has been revealed that an employment agency in Bambalapitiya had made arrangements to send the workers for employment overseas. The group of workers were from the Badulla, Mannar, Kandy, Jaffna, and Colombo areas.
Meanwhile, another group of 12 migrant workers who were harassed by their employers also returned to the country this morning. Some workers have been hospitalised upon arrival to their country.
