Two persons have been nabbed with smuggled cigarettes worth Rs 1.2 million in Puttalam today (Jun 7).
Special Task Force (STF) personnel had arrested the suspects who were selling the cigarettes in a van under the pretext of operating under a registered tobacco company.
A search on the van had led to the recovery of 9000 cigarette sticks which had been stored in 15 cartons.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the cigarettes had been smuggled from India before being sold across certain shops in the country.
