Two poachers arrested in Hambantota

Two men allegedly engaged in poaching animals and selling the meat were taken into custody during a special operation conducted in the Hedilla area in Hambantota by wildlife officers last evening. 

Officers had raided two houses during the operation. They had been able to find meat from poached animals along with Rs.8000 in cash obtained from selling illegal meat. A skull belonging to a deer killed previously was also found. 

Upon interrogation of the suspects, officers later found the head and skin of the deer whose meat was found from the homes of the suspects. 

The suspects, aged 59 and 39 years, are due to be produced before the Hambantota Magistrate.
