Two suspects were arrested for engaging in illegal gem mining in the Bogawantalawa area yesterday (Feb 26).
The arrest was made following a tip-off received by the Bogawantalawa police concerning the racket which was being carried out in the Theresia estate area.
The two suspects were identified as 34 and 58-year old residents of Bogawantalawa.
They were released on bail and were ordered to be present before the Hatton Magistrates Court on March 05.
Police are conducting further invesitgations in this regard.
