Two teenagers had succumbed to death following a train collision in Nawalapitiya at around 9 am today (Feb 03).
The incident had occured when an express train travelling from Colombo Fort to Ella had collided with the duo while they were walking on the rail tracks.
One teenager who was on a call at the time of the incident was pushed by the other individual in a bid to save the former, police said. However, both teenagers subsequentally fell victim to the collission as they failed to move themselves away from the rail tracks.
The victims have been identified as L.Harsha Kumara, 15, and P. Bhagya Sewwandi, 16, who are both residents of Nawalapitiya.
Nawalapitiya police are investigating further.
