Two women including a pradeshiya sabha member who had obstructed the duties of police officers at a roadblock in Wennappuwa have been arrested yesterday (Aug 20).
Police officers had initially pulled over a woman who had been speeding and had later learnt that she had not been in the possession of the driving license and other documents.
However, the father and two sisters of the woman which included a member of the Wennappuwa pradeshiya sabha had arrived in a motorcycle and a van and had attempted to save the woman, police said.
The woman's motorcycle and the other motorcycle involved in the incident had been taken into custody by the police.
The Marawila Magistrate's court upon considering facts presented by the police, issued arrest warrants on the woman, her two sisters, and her father. Police had also submitted a video footage of the incident to court.
Accordingly, two suspects identified as 21-year old Chamodhari Fernando, and 16-year old Navanjalee Fernando had been apprehended yesterday. They are due to be produced before court today.
An operation is underway to locate and apprehend the other two suspects.
