Sri Lanka’s former Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga accused for embezzling public funds was remanded until next Monday hours after he was brought back to the country and questioned by the CID.
He was produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake..
Mr Weeratunga was is alleged to have embezzled public funds related with regard to procurement of MiG aircraft and money laundering.
An arrest warrant was first issued on him on October 20, 2016 by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, but he was evading arrest.
However, subsequently he was located in the UAE and arrested. But he was released from custody and ordered not to leave.
