The arrest warrant which was issued on Brigadier Priyanka Fernando for violating UK's Public Order Act was withdrawn earlier today (Jan 02).
This was announced when the Westminster Magistrate’s Court had asked the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) to confirm whether Brig. Fernando enjoys diplomatic immunity.
"The Foreign Minister has already requested the Sri Lankan High Commissioner to do the needful in order to adopt the necessary legal measures" Army Spokesman Sumith Atapattu told Times Online. Accordingly, Brig. Fernando was represented by the Sri Lankan High Commission in UK.
The case has been postponed until March.
An arrest warrant was issued on the Brigadier after a case was filed against his 'threatening actions' against a group of LTTE supporters who staged a protest outside the premises of the Sri Lankan High Commission in UK on February 04 last year.
