A Ukranian national has been arrested over the theft of a motorcycle worth Rs 100,000 belonging to a hotel owner in Mirissa.
The suspect had stolen the motorcycle on April 02 when it was parked opposite the residence belonging to an owner of a hotel.
The owner who discovered that the motorcycle had gone missing, identifed the suspect using the assistance of CCTV footage. Despite filing a police complaint, he had hoped that the motorcycle would be returned to him since he is employed in the tourism industry.
However, police officers had pulled over the Ukranian national while he was travelling on the motorcycle today and had conducted an inspection afterwards.
After examining the licence and the insurance card which was in the possession of the suspect, police had confirmed that the motorcyle had been stolen by the Ukranian national.
The suspect, a 30-year old will be produced before the Matara Magistrates Court in due course.
