Undergrads demand release of fellow students

University students held a protest this morning outside the University of Visual and Performing Arts demanding that authorities take steps to release a group of fellow undergraduates who were arrested by police yesterday.

Seven undergrads, including a Buddhist Monk, were taken into custody by police on charges of violating a court order and taking part in a protest organized by the Inter University Students' Federation (IUSF) at Kollupitiya on Thursday. They were remanded in custody till January 26. 

The protest was organized against the SAITM private medical college in Malabe.
