UNP MP Chaminda Wijesiri who surrendered over the assault of a Police Constable today (Feb 13) has been released on a cash bail of Rs 10,000 and two surety bails worth Rs 500,000 each.
MP Wijesiri pleaded guilty of being involved in the assault before the Bandarawela Magistrate Keerthi Kumburuhena today.
The assault had taken place opposite the Bandarawela post office on February 10 when the parliamentarian's vehicle and the police constable's vehicle had attempted to overtake each other.
Investigations into the incident were carried out under the leadership of Bandarawela OIC Chief Police Inspector Chandana Jayathilaka.
