The United National Party (UNP) has instructed non-cabinet minsters Sujeewa Senasinghe and Ajith Perera to submit a written explanation before September 9, for criticizing the party and breaching its code of conduct.
In a letter sent to the UNP non-cabinet ministers, UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said that they had criticized the party, its leadership, its working committee, and its programme through electronic, print media, and online platforms.
This had resulted in the violation of six counts of the party's constitution, Mr. Kariyawasam noted.
He further said that the disciplinary committee of the party had decided to call for explanations from these individuals after they had considered certain complaints received against them.
Meanwhile, the UNP General Secretary told Times Online that the party would seek a similar explanation from Minister Harin Fernando for challenging the disciplinary committee of the party.
