The UNP has decided to meet with the elections commissioner to discuss the illegal move by the President to hold a general election, MP Ajith P Perera said at a special media conference last night.
Speaking at the briefing MP Rajitha Senaratne said, ¨President can't dissolve the Parliament as per the new constitution. We are going to file a case against this decision in Supreme Court," he said. Adding ¨There are no funds allocated for the election. So if election going to happen Parliament must have to pass the funds for that, they can't use other allocated funds by previous projects.¨

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
