UNP wants local elections under the PR system

News

The UNP Working Committee members today called for the conduct of the upcoming local elections under the existing Proportional Representation (PR) system, instead of the First Past the Post system.

The request was made at the Working Committee meeting held at the party headquarters Sirikotha today evening.

The members pointed out that there were questions regarding the demarcation of the wards under which the proposed elections should be held.

It was also proposed that 25 per cent of the candidates should be women.
