Update : People's Bank (Amendment) Bill passed
People's Bank (Amendment) Bill was passed in Parliament this afternoon with amendments.
The Committee Stage debate on the bill took place this morning.
The debate was originally due to be held on September 4. However, the Government agreed to postpone the debate after Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa wrote to Speaker Karu Jayasuriya asking for a postponement as serious concerns had been raised in banking circles about the bill.
