UPDATE : Six including Parliament staffer arrested over NTJ training facility

Six suspects including an employee at the Parliament’s Hansard Department have been arrested over a training facility of the National Thowheed Jamath group in Kurunegala, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said.

Initially three suspects had been apprehended after the training facility was discovered at a coconut estate upon a tip-off received by the Kurunegala Police.

The suspects which included the estate owner were arrested on May 09 and have been remanded until May 24 after being produced before court, the Police Spokesman told a news briefing today (May 20).

Details pertaining to two more individuals including that of a Kurunegala hospital staffer had emerged following questioning of the three suspects.

According to the Police Spokesman, several cheques had been discovered in the possession of the hospital staffer. Investigations had also revealed that cash deposits had been made to the suspect’s bank account from various places.

Following a questioning on both these suspects, police had arrested an individual in the Alawathugoda area last Saturday. This suspect was identified as an employee of the Parliament Hansard Department, the Police Spokesman said.

The three suspects including the hospital and parliament staffer are currently being questioned by the Police.
