The UPFA has informed the Secretary General of Parliament that it has named seven members of the Parliamentary Committee of Selection which comprises 12 members in all.
This includes Dinesh Gunawardena, S.B.Dissanayaka, Mahinda Samarasinghe, Nimal Siripala De Silva, Tilanga Sumathipala and Wimal Weerawansa and Udaya Gammanpila.
Both the UNP and the JVP says the UPFA cannot get a majority in the Committee as they have no majority in Parliament.
The Committee of Selection prior to prorogation comprised - Karu Jayasuriya (Chairman),Rauff Hakeem, Lakshman Kiriella, Mahinda Samarasinghe, Rishad Badhiutheen, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Mano Ganesan, Dinesh Gunawardena, Douglas Devananda, Vijitha Herath, Mavai S. Senathirajah, Dharmalingam Sithadthan and (Dr.) Nalinda Jayathissa.
