A US national was arrested with several parts of a firearm at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) while attempting to board a flight to his native country last Saturday night.
Security officials at the airport had apprehended the 56-year old suspect who had arrived in Sri Lanka to inquire into the well being of his mother who was residing in Wellawatte.
Parts of the firearm were discovered inside the US national's travelling bag during an x-ray scan at the emigration terminal of the BIA.
Further investigations are being carried out by the BIA police.
