The US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo is expected to visit Colombo, Sri Lanka in two weeks (between June 24-28) said Morgan Ortagus, State Department spokesperson yesterday.
In Colombo, he will express America's solidarity with the people of Sri Lanka as they stand united against the despicable Easter Sunday Attcks, Ortagus said at a press briefing. Pompeo will also discuss promising opportunities for US - Sri Lanka cooperation based on shared commitments to a free and open Indo - Pacific during his visit to Colombo.
The visit by Secretary Pompeo is part of a tri-nation visit covering India, Sri Lanka and Japan with the aim of advancing the shared goal of a free and shared 'Indo - Pacific'.
According to the US state department, Secretary Pompeo will first visit India and meet newly re-elected Prime Minister Narendra Modi prior to arriving in Sri Lanka. Later, he is expected to visit Osaka, Japan to attend the G20 leaders meeting on June 28.
