The government is to implement a programme in cooperation with the World Bank and the European Union with the aim of increasing transparency and efficiency of the central government and public financial management.
It aims to introduce an e-procurement system, public financial management information system and an excise revenue management system as prominent information systems.
The Cabinet approved a proposal put forward by Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera to authorize the Ministry to enter into an agreement with the World Bank’s International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) to obtain a loan of USD 25 million.
The programme is to be implemented after seeking the advice of the monetary board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka regarding the financial implications of such a loan.
