The Colombo High Court acquitted Ven Uduwe Dhammaloka Thera of all allegations levelled against him over the possession of an elephant calf without a valid permit.
This was announced when the case was taken up before High Court Judge Sampath Wijeratne today (Mar 1).
While issuing the verdict the judge ordered the suspect to handover the elephant to the Wildlife Department.
Ven. Uduwe Dhammaloka Thera was at the centre of a controversy for allegedly possessing an elephant sans a permit. The Thera claimed that he was looking after an elephant calf that had been abandoned in his temple.
