The Colombo Chief Magistrate's court has postponed announcing the verdict on Police Commission Secretary Saman Dissanayake's anticipatory bail application, until July 17.
Dissanayake had filed the application seeking the prevention of his arrest on July 8 over the Avant Garde illegal floating armoury case.
The anticipatory bail application had been filed after the Attorney General had instructed the Acting Police Chief to arrest Dissanayake along with seven others over the case.
During today’s hearing, the lawyer appearing for Dissanayake had told court, that his client had only performed his duties as instructed by his higher officials.
Against this backdrop, the lawyer had argued that it was unfair to arrest only low ranking police officers without arresting the higher-ups.
