Ward Place temporarily closed off due to protest by non-academic staff
Ward Place has been temporarily closed off for traffic due to a protest by non-academic staff opposite the University Grants Commission.
The protest is taking place based on salary anomalies in line with their two-day token strike which entered its second day today.
University Trade Union Joint Committee Media Secretary K.L. Richmond said that non-academic staffers from all state universities are taking part in the protest.

SLAF Bell 212 crashes into Maduru Oya
A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
