Five individuals, including a 16-year old have died following a wave of accidents in the country yesterday (Dec 18).
The16-year old succumbed to death in Mallavi when a motorcycle had skidded off the road as the motorcyclist had lost balance.
Police say that the victim who was riding pillion was admitted to the Kilinochchi Hospital along with the motorcyclist following which he succumbed to his injuries. The victim has been identified as Kirubanandaraja Vidushan, a resident of Vavuniya.
Meanwhile, another accident occurred in Kilinochchi when two motorcycles had collided with each other leaving two motorcyclists and one pillion rider injured.
The injured were admitted to the Kilinochchi hospital following which one motorcyclist had succumbed to his injuries.
He has been identified as Thanga Vadivel, a resident of Kilinochchi.
A 69-year old succumbed to death after colliding with a train in Vadduwa, when a train travelling towards Kandy from Matara had collided with the victim.
The deceased has been identified as Wijethunga Wimalasena, a resident of Vadduwa.
Meanwhile, a head-on collision involving a lorry and a three-wheeler left a 61-year old dead in Dompe last afternoon.
According to the police, the accident had occurred when a lorry which was travelling towards Delgoda had collided with a three-wheeler that was travelling in the opposite direction.
The remains of the victim who has been identified as Liyanage Somasiri, lie at Colombo General Hospital.
