Weapons, ammo discovered at a residence in Kuda Oya

Seven firearms and a stock of ammunition have been discovered during a Police search at a house in Kuda Oya yesterday (May 12).

Investigations have revealed that the house had been leased out to an individual identified by M.J. Abdul Thahim who is a resident of Dehiwela. He is believed to have used the garden of the house for cultivation activites. 

During the search operation, police officers had seized some weapons and ammunition which were concealed between mattresses while a few other similar possessions had been buried in the garden.

Meanwhile, 60-year old Dineshdurage Jayaweera who was serving as the caretaker of the house has been arrested while Abdul Thahim who had purchased the house is yet to be arrested.

The items which were seized from the house are as follows;

  • Two repeater guns
  • A Bore 12 type firearm
  • Two Rugger M77 rifles
  • Three Telescopic lenses used in guns
  • One signal kit
  • 1 Pen drive and a SIM card
  • A book titled ‘Special Weapons’
  • 342 T-56 bullets
  • 163 Bore 12 bullets
  • 430 Bore 12 long bullets
  • 21 Bore 12 bullets (16-caliber)
  • 110 M-16 bullets
  • 75 9mm bullets
  • 769 7mm bullets
  • Five smoke bombs
  • A pair of handcuffs
  • 14 cris knives and daggers
  • Two axes
  • Four aluminium boxes containing air rifle bullets
  • Four small torches
  • One Searchlight
