The acting officer-in-charge (OIC) of the Welambada Police, who attempted to return knives and axes which are being used as case objects has been transferred to the Kandy Police Station and suspended from official duty, spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said.
Issuing a statement, Mr. Gunasekara noted that OIC police inspector Bandula Bandara had attempted to return 76 manna knives and 13 axes which had been seized from mosques on April 28
Accordingly, the OIC has been transferred to the Kandy police division before being suspended from his services, the spokesman noted.
He adding that the deputy inspector general (DIG) of the Kandy district had conducted an inquiry with the Welambada Police prior to the transfer.
Meanwhile, further investigations into the incident are being carried out into the incident under the supervision of the Kandy DIG.
