Parliamentarian and National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader Wimal Weerawansa who has been on a hunger strike in Welikada remand prisons over a week admitted to Prison hospital today, a spokesperson from Prisons Department said.
Mr Weerwanasa commenced his hunger strike on March 22 claiming he was arrested under false charges. He was arrested on January 10 for allegedly misusing 40 State vehicles belonging to the State Engineering Corporation which resulted a loss of Rs. 90 million to the government.

Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala told Parliament today that the suspect in the rape of a lady doctor at the Anuradhapura teaching hospital has been identified as an army deserter and he will be apprehended shortly.
