Work on removing clinical waste suspected to be from India, that had washed up on the Puttalam coast began yesterday (21) under the direction of the Department of Coast Conservation and Coastal Resources Management.
Clinical waste suspected to have come from India started washing up along the Puttalam coast from around the 10th of this month. Within days a 30 mile stretch of coastline Udappuwa to Kalpitiya were covered with clinical waste.
Work on removing the clinical waste from the beaches of Puttalam is being conducted under the direction of the Coast Conservation Department. About 100 members of local fisheries associations as well as police and navy personnel took part in the operation.
